Overview
Mise is a custom restaurant management and operational system designed specifically around the distinct rituals, workflows, and communication lines of an independent restaurant. Named after the culinary discipline of mise en place (“everything in its place”), the system replaces scattered sticky notes, disorganized spreadsheets, and bloated SaaS tools with a lean, ergonomic interface built strictly for what the team actually executes.
The need
Most commercial restaurant management software is built for massive corporate franchises. For an agile independent operator:
- Generic software introduces overwhelming configuration menus, redundant data entry fields, and unnecessary complexity.
- Daily operational essentials—opening prep checklists, station handovers, equipment maintenance schedules, and staff role assignments—end up neglected because the tools are too slow to update during a shift.
- Managers spend more time feeding administrative systems than managing the restaurant floor.
Product goals
- Provide a distraction-free, high-speed interface optimized for touch devices and quick inputs.
- Unify task management, shift handovers, and station checklists into a single source of operational truth.
- Enable full customization of workflows and station rules based directly on the restaurateur’s feedback.
Constraints & Pragmatic Decisions
- Speed over feature sprawl: Every screen and workflow is stripped to its essential actions. If a form field does not directly inform a floor decision or historical record, it is omitted.
- Robust deployment: Engineered to run either on local internal network appliances or hosted flexibly on Google Cloud, ensuring low latency and high availability.
- Operator-led evolution: Built iteratively alongside the restaurateur and floor managers, evolving in response to real-world friction observed across actual services.
