Port Manager
A focused macOS app for inspecting and safely resolving local port conflicts.
Finding which process holds a local port and safely stopping it usually means piecing together lsof and ps by hand — slow and error-prone.
Overview
Port Manager is a macOS app for listing listening TCP ports and the processes behind them, then resolving conflicts with an explicit, guarded stop flow. Product information and downloads are at ports.bersaglio.work; the website is not the app interface.
The local macOS app is the primary product experience. An MCP server is also available as an advanced option for AI-agent workflows.
The need
Debugging “port already in use” on a local machine usually means running lsof and ps by hand, then deciding whether a kill is safe. That is slow and easy to get wrong.
Product goals
- Show a clear read-only view of ports and owning processes first.
- Make stopping a process an explicit, confirmed action — not a silent side effect.
Constraints
- macOS only (relies on
lsof/ps). - Local developer utility — not for production or remote/multi-user use.
- Solo project.
The solution
A small macOS app that lists listening ports, shows process ownership, and offers a guarded stop path (confirm, then re-validate that the PID still owns the port before signaling).
Product experience
Find product information and macOS downloads at ports.bersaglio.work.
Current state
Active macOS utility for local use. MCP remains an advanced integration; it is not the primary product surface.
What is next
No committed roadmap beyond keeping the macOS utility solid; cross-platform support remains open.
Current Reality
An honest baseline of current capabilities and open inquiries
- ✓Port Manager is an active macOS app for inspecting local ports and safely stopping processes.
- ✓The website provides product information and downloads; it is not the app interface.
- ?Cross-platform support for Linux / Windows process inspection.
